Member Photos and Contact Information

The Communications Committee is updating the contact list to include all those members that have opted in to having their information available. The updated version will be available soon. UkuLaLas!

Tuesdays and Saturdays, 10-11:30am

The UkuLaLas continue to hold both weekly strums. Saturdays (May 2, 9, 23, and 30) are indoors at Maxine’s Gallery at 126 N. Madeira St. from 10 to 11:30am. Tuesday strums are also from 10 to 11:30am (May 5, 12, 19 and 26) and are at the Observatory in Patterson Park or at the Cedar House during inclement weather. The Stroller Strum is from 11 to 11:30am on Tuesdays (May 5, 12, 19 and 26) at the Observatory unless it’s rainy, in which case it will be held in the Cedar House.

All What’s Next members are welcome. We happily include all musical instruments and singers. Leave us a message at hello@whatsnextbaltimore.org if you have questions or need to borrow a loaner ukulele. And don’t worry if you are new to playing; we have small-group beginner sessions to help you get started.

First Monday Trail Hike - Marshy Point

Revisiting the site of the April hike, but walking on different trails. Lovely Chesapeake Bay inlet setting. Recommend wearing boots. Optional stop at Richardson Farm after hike. Let us know if you will meet us there at 10am or at Charmed Kitchen at 9:15am and whether you can drive from Charmed.

Fiber Arts Group

Sunday, May 10, 3-5 pm
Nancy Newman’s House

All fiber artists and want-to-be fiber artists are welcome to join others for the monthly fiber arts group gathering at Nancy Newman’s house. Bring your work in progress or just come chat with others while we knit, crochet, sew, and weave. If you are planning to attend, please RSVP by email to hello@whatsnextbaltimore.org to let Nancy know and to get the address. And as if the fiber arts weren’t enough, there are almost always delicious snacks!

Happy Hour

Thursday, May 14, 5-7pm
Ministry of Brewing

Join other What’s Next members at the Ministry of Brewing. No need to RSVP. Bring your favorite small plate, finger food, appetizer to share. Games are welcome too! Often there is a food truck (and a food truck schedule on their website) in case you want something more substantial.

Strum with UkuLaLas at the Flea Market!

The Ukulalas will play near the Observatory at the Flea Market on Saturday from 10am to 11am. Come sing along! (No practice at Maxine’s on this Saturday).

The Flea Market is from 9am-2pm.

The People on the Bus (and the Boat)

The Harbor Connector

Meet in Fells Point at 9:30am  and we’ll learn about the Harbor Connector, Baltimore’s free water taxi. We’ll travel by boat to Canton Waterfront and Locust Point, and then back in time for an early lunch in Fells Point. RSVP to Nancy for more information and to let her know you are coming.

We will be reading Ali Smith's How to be Both. A.O. Scott of the NYT writes: "This elegant double helix of a novel entwines the stories of a fictional modern-day British girl and a real-life 15th-century Italian painter. A more conventional book might have explored the ways the past and present mirror each other, but Smith is after something much more radical. How to Be Both is a passionate, dialectical critique of the binaries that define and confine us. The way to be “both” is to recognize the extent to which everything already is."

Forms and Wine, Planning for the Future

Wednesday, May 27, 7-8:30pm

Do you know how you always intend to fill out those important forms but never QUITE get around to it? Well, we’ve got a solution. We’ll meet at Nancy Newman’s. RSVP for address.

Raise a glass to the future and FINALLY fill out your: Power of Attorney or Anatomy Board or Health Care Advance Directives and others. We’ll have the forms, just bring your important  info and a bottle of wine. We’ve even got a live-in Notary Public if needed.
