From the What's Next Board

We had an outstanding turnout at the (postponed) annual meeting! What's Next members enjoyed singing along with the UkuLalas, a poetry reading, and a fun icebreaker. We also heard committee reports, approved the budget for 2026, and elected this year's board. Board members are Sharon Moore, Susan Sterett, Lori Spencer, Barkley Murray, Marilyn Szekendi, Susan Davis, Ann Wolfe, and Beth Braun. 

The board recently held their first meeting. One order of business was to elect the officers. The following were unanimously elected: Sharon Moore — president; Barkley Murray — vice president; Susan Sterett — secretary; and Beth Braun — treasurer. We have some new ideas and plans for this year. Stay tuned to the newsletter for forthcoming announcements. In the near term, the Communications and Membership Committee will be updating the member contact list and introducing a photo array of members. See details below.

The Communications Committee will be updating the contact list in early April to include all those members that have opted in to having their information available. Overlap at MAXgallery (Art Exhibit with our Member, Kini Collins)

Happy Hour

Ministry of Brewing

Join other What’s Next members at the Ministry of Brewing. No need to RSVP. Bring your favorite small plate, finger food, appetizer to share. Games are welcome too! Often there is a food truck (and a food truck schedule on their website) in case you want something more substantial.

Strum with UkuLaLas (at Kite Fest in Patterson Park)

Saturday, April 11, 12-1pm

The UkuLaLas will be opening Kite Fest at the Observatory at noon. Find a spot to sit on the grass to listen to the fun spring songs. Bring a chair if you can.

Fiber Arts Group

Sunday, April 12, 3-5 pm
Nancy Newman’s House

All fiber artists and want-to-be fiber artists are welcome to join others for the monthly fiber arts group gathering at Nancy Newman’s house. Bring your work in progress or just come chat with others while we knit, crochet, sew, and weave. If you are planning to attend, please RSVP by email to hello@whatsnextbaltimore.org to let Nancy know and to get the address. And as if the fiber arts weren’t enough, there are almost always delicious snacks!

Stroller Strum Begins!

The UkuLaLas warmly invite all parents and caregivers to a sunny diversion in the park every Tuesday beginning April 14, weather permitting. Bring your littles to a fun sing along that will be sure to get their toes tapping. Rattles, kazoos and other noise makers are encouraged. Pass the word about this free event in our lovely park.

The People on the Bus

Lexington Market

Meet at Nancy Supik's at 9:30am. Get the MTA app loaded on your phone and learn how to use it. We'll walk to the bus stop around 10am and take the bus downtown and then make the short walk to Lexington Market. Bring some cash, $1 each way for the bus (unless you are using the Charm Pass). We'll use the app to find a bus home. (Probably arrive home close to 1pm.) RSVP to let Nancy & Trish White know you’re coming.

Need help getting the app loaded or new to the bus? Let us know and we can get together earlier to make sure you are all set!

Bike Ride to Sherwood Gardens!

Wednesday, April 29, 10am

Join us for a bike hike to Sherwood Garden to see the tulips in bloom. The ride is 5.5 miles and should take less than an hour. Slight uphill on the way to the garden but all downhill on the way back. Helmets are required and water bottles and gloves are recommended. Be sure your bike is in ride-ready condition.

UkuLaLas!

Tuesdays and Saturdays, 10-11:30am

The UkuLaLas continue to hold both weekly strums. Saturdays are still indoors at Maxine’s Gallery at 126 N. Madeira St. from 10 to 11:30am. Tuesday strums are at the Cedar House or at the Observatory in Patterson Park also from 10 to 11:30am. From 11 to 11:30am is the Stroller Strum.

All What’s Next members are welcome. We happily include all musical instruments and singers. Leave us a message at hello@whatsnextbaltimore.org if you have questions or need to borrow a loaner ukulele. And don’t worry if you are new to playing; we have small-group beginner sessions to help you get started.
