Member Photos and Contact Information

The Communications Committee has updated the contact list to include all those members that have opted in to have their information available. The updated version is available now! UkuLaLas!

Tuesdays and Saturdays, 9:45-11:30am

The UkuLaLas  will strum Tuesdays only for the summer. Our Tuesday strums are from 9:45 to 11:30am (June 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30). We meet at the Cedar House. From there, we will walk to the Observatory for our much-loved Stroller Strum which is from 11 to 11:30am. If it’s rainy, Stroller Strum will be in the Cedar House.

All What’s Next members are welcome. We happily include all musical instruments and singers. Leave us a message at hello@whatsnextbaltimore.org if you have questions or need to borrow a loaner ukulele. And don’t worry if you are new to playing; we have small-group beginner sessions to help you get started.

First Monday Trail Hike - Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park

Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park was created to protect local watersheds and natural habitats. It’s part of the Baltimore National Heritage Area and is infamously known because more than 75 bodies have been found there since the 1940s!

Please let us know if you will meet us there at 10am or at Charmed Kitchen at 9:15am and whether you can drive from Charmed.

Program Committee Meeting

Happy Hour

Thursday, June 11, 5-7pm
Ministry of Brewing

Join other What’s Next members at the Ministry of Brewing. No need to RSVP. Bring your favorite small plate, finger food, appetizer to share. Games are welcome too! Often there is a food truck (and a food truck schedule on their website) in case you want something more substantial.

Fiber Arts Group

Sunday, June 14, 3-5 pm
Nancy Newman’s House

All fiber artists and want-to-be fiber artists are welcome to join others for the monthly fiber arts group gathering at Nancy Newman’s house. Bring your work in progress or just come chat with others while we knit, crochet, sew, and weave. If you are planning to attend, please RSVP by email to hello@whatsnextbaltimore.org to let Nancy know and to get the address. And as if the fiber arts weren’t enough, there are almost always delicious snacks!

Garden Stroll

Monday, June 15, 5-7pm

Stroll two blocks and visit 5 secret gardens along Madeira Street in Butchers Hill between Baltimore & Pratt Streets. Meet the What’s Next gardeners who care for them and share a cocktail (or two). RSVP and we’ll send you the walking map.

Tuesday, June 16, 7pm at Chuck and Susan Davis’s house

A neglected tour de force by Sinclair Lewis,  the first American to win the Nobel Prize in literature, Kingsblood Royal (1947) is a stirring and wickedly funny portrait of a man who resigns from the white race. When Neil Kingsblood a typical middle-American banker with a comfortable life makes the shocking discovery that he has African-American blood, the odyssey that ensues creates an unforgettable portrayal of two Americas, one black, one white. Available at libraries and who knows, maybe at a used book store near you.

The People on the Bus

The Jewish Museum of Maryland and Attman’s Deli

The Jewish Museum ($8 admission) on Lloyd Street is a great place to learn about Jewish history, culture, and creativity. We can start with lunch at Attman’s Deli (1019 E.Lombard, the museum’s official deli) for anyone who wishes.

We can catch the #65 at Patterson Park and Pratt. Fare is $1 each way for Seniors. If you want to ride together, be there at noon to catch the 12:12 (or meet along the 65 route closer to your house).  RSVP to Nancy for more information and to let her know you are coming.

Line Dancing

Line Dancing is back! Come join us on Saturday, June 20th for line dancing. You bring the groove and we’ll teach you the steps. We will meet at the Cedar House in Patterson Park from 7pm to 8:30pm. BYOB and feel free to bring a light snack to share.

Small Space, Big Harvest: Growing Microgreens

Join What’s Next members for a workshop on growing nutritious indoor microgreens at home. Learn what supplies to buy and how to easily grow fresh greens in a small space almost year-round—ready to harvest in just 1–2 weeks. This event is being organized by Trudy Slinger.

Lark in the Park

Patterson Park near the Cedar House

What’s Next is celebrating America’s semiquincentennial (250th!) birthday with another fun-filled afternoon/evening in the park, playing games and getting to know new and not-so-new members. What’s Next will provide the games (croquet, ladderball, corn hole, bocce ball) and a light snack. Bring whatever you want to drink and a chair (if you can). We’ll provide water and coolers with ice and maybe even some prizes! No need to RSVP. Come join in the fun!

Bike Ride with Cycling Seniors, BWI and B&A Trails

Tuesday, June 30, 10am-noon
BWI Observation Area, 1911 Dorsey Road, Glen Burnie, MD 21061

This ride is a counterclockwise loop along the BWI Trail, followed by a ride along the B&A Trail down to The Big Bean Coffee Shop in Severna Park for a cafe stop before returning to the BWI Observation Area. This ride is organized by Cycling Seniors. You need to register with them prior to the bike ride.

Ride Distance: BWI Loop only – 10.8 miles; the complete ride with cafe stop – 33.4 miles.
